Cooking Fiasco

Today I got a chance to sleep in again, which is helpful when I'm trying to play catch up with my sleep. Vlad and Vlad came to pick us up and we took our first bus ride. Up until now the majority of our traveling was done via taxi. Although the bus is cheaper it requires a lot more thought, so until I get a little better with my Romanian I think I will stick with the taxi. We went to the restaurant again for lunch and had chicken with vegetables, and soup of course! This time I asked for ketchup. She looked at me like I was crazy at first, then went to the back and brought back something that was a mixture of ketchup and bbq sauce. It wasn’t what I expected, but I’m not picky. After lunch, we went exploring again and went to Carrefour. The first one was more of a mix of a gas station superstore and a mini grocery store. The second one we went to was more like super Walmart. We got groceries for spaghetti and some breakfast foods to hold us over until the weekend when we could go shopping again.

When we got home we were excited to start cooking and preparing our first meal. The stove was gas and we had to start the gas then use the lighter to ignite it ourselves. We cooked our noodles, which took a little longer than expected, then cooked the meat and mixed it with the spaghetti sauce. Right as we were mixing the spaghetti with the sauce...BOOM!!!... the entire glass busted and exploded everywhere! It is a gas stove with a glass top that comes over it. We figured the glass top was similar to the flat tops that are electric in America. Well, that is not the case. We were supposed to lift the glass part up, cook on the stove, and then once it cooled, put the glass back. Instead, we cooked on the glass and thus the overheating and cooling of the glass caused it to expand/contract too quickly and shatter. There was really nowhere to run, so I jumped on a counter top LOL. We called Vlad and he came to help us clean up. We had planned to work out in the apartment later that night, but after all of the excitement of the day we reviewed the paperwork we had, signed our team rules agreement, and laid down. Shortly after, our first roommate arrived. She is a tall post player from Serbia. I was relieved to see another tall player so that I wouldn’t be forced to play the position 5 the entire year. We took some more ZzzQuil and tried to get some sleep before our first work out.
